PHILLIPS, RHUBENA JANET (RUBY) - of Kincardine, N.B., widow of James Phillips, passed away peacefully on December 2, 2004 at Hotel Dieu Hospital, Perth-Andover, N.B. Born on December 27, 1907 in West Branch, Kent County, N.B., she was the oldest daughter of May MacLeod and Smith Morton. Ruby is survived by sisters Eva (Russell) Hicks (McKee's Mills); Bertha (Donald) Morton (Maugerville); Mildred (Garnet) Girvan (Kincardine); Laura (Donald) MacLean (Miramichi); Edna (Bud) Palmer (Moncton); and brother Charles (Maude) Morton (Ford Bank); sisters-in-law Doris (Earl) Morton (West Branch); Kathleen (Lloyd) Morton (Kincardine); and Mary (Carman) Morton (Irishtown). She was Aunt Ruby to many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; husband, James; sister, Marian; brothers Earl, Lloyd and Carman. Ruby was a pillar of the community and respected by all who knew her. Before becoming a full-time homemaker, Ruby was a school teacher. She was a member and staunch supporter of the Melville United Church, Kincardine, the Kincardine U.C.W., Electa Chapter #9 Order of the Eastern Star, Perth-Andover, Kincardine Women's Institute and the Scotch Colony Brotherhood. She was an active supporter of the Burns Hall and always helped with the U.C.W. fall suppers. Until recently she acted on stage, in plays at Burns Night and Christmas concerts. Ruby enjoyed knitting and playing cards with her neighbors and was a great cook. There was always a cup of tea and cookies for anyone who dropped in. She will be greatly missed. Resting at White's Funeral Home Perth-Andover, with visiting hours Saturday, December 4, 2004 from 2-4 and 7-9PM. Funeral services will be held at 2:00PM on Sunday, December 5, 2004 at White's Funeral Home, Rev. Maynard Rector officiating. Interment will be in the Melville Community Cemetery, Kincardine, N.B. Memorial donations may be made to Melville United Church Cemetery, Kincardine or a charity of the donor's choice.
