FORD, Alfreda "Freddi" Cynthia (nee Crisell) - On Sunday, December 5, 2004 in her 80th year, Freddi passed peacefully after a relatively short struggle with cancer. She was vivacious and spirited right to the end. Thanks to the support of many friends in Peterborough and region, all but the final two days of Freddi's illness were comfortably spent at home in Millbrook with Peter Ford, her husband of 25 years. Freddi was predeceased by her first husband Cameron Trennum Johnston, and her older daughter Candace Terri Johnston. In addition to her husband Peter, she leaves son Gregory Johnston (Louise Given), and granddaughter Kaley Johnston; daughter Cynthia Johnston Turner (Peter Turner) and stepsons Cody Ford (Paula Lettiere) and Dal Ford (Wendy Kostiuk) and grandchildren Brittany and Cody Junior. For 20 years Freddi Ford was a respected grassroots volunteer with the Canadian Mental Health Association (Peterborough) and a trainer, facilitator and caregiver in suicide prevention, intervention and survivor support. She and her primary partner in this work Barbara Moffat, helped hundreds of suicide survivors across Ontario through their grief journey. Freddi's most recent passion was playing percussion in the Peterborough New Horizons Band. She made the effort to hear her colleagues rehearse just 10 days ago. There will be a private family service and cremation.
