Mr. Donald Somers, of Strathadam, passed away peacefully, March 4th, 2009 at the Miramichi Regional Hospital, at the age of 68, with his loving wife, daughters, son and family at his side. Donnie was born and raised in Matthew Settlement. He was a retired employee of UPM Woodlands Division. He was one of thirteen children born to the late Wilson and Ida (Hamilton) Somers and the beloved husband of Judy (MacDonald) Somers for 42 years. Donnie will forever be remembered by his devoted brothers; Jackie (Barb) of Black River, Harold (Sandra) of Lyttleton and Frank (Anna Lee) of Matthews Settlement, loving sisters Shirley (Nick) Haars of Miramichi, Doreen Smith of Janeville and Blanche Hubbard of Moncton, beloved children Brent, Paula Somers and Peggy (Jamie) Flett, treasured Poppy to grandchildren Cole, Kelsie, Hayley, Britney Somers, Brandon French and Brooklyn Flett, caring in-laws, Joan, Sandra, Joy, Dean, Danny, Carmen, Blaine, Ray and Gerald, along with countless other friends and family whom were blessed to know him. Donnie was predeceased by his parents,brothers; Mark, Lloyd, Bernie and sisters; Edna, Kathleen and Pauline. His memory will live on in his expectant grandson in May 2009. Donnie loved listening to fiddle music, playing the spoons, playing bingo, laughing, being with his family and having fun with friends. Donnie touched many people with his smile, generosity and maintained his sense of humor all the way to the end. The family greeted family and friends at Davidson's Funeral Home on Friday and Saturday. A funeral service was held at the Davidson's Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday at 3:00 pm, with Rev. Jerry Vanderveen officiating assisted by Rev. Dale Greer. A violin and guitar duet was preformed by Mr. Leigh Loggie and Mr. George Sobey. Soloist was Rev. Dale Greer whom rendered a tribute in memory of Donnie composed by Mr. Nick Haars. Eulogy was preformed by niece, Karri Bryenton. A reception for family and friends was held following the funeral service in Davidson's Reception Room. Pallbearers were; Darcy Ashton, Arly Sherrard, Jamie Lobban, Derrick Allison, Danny Ross and Tony Somers. Burial will follow later in the spring in St. Stephen's United Cemetery, Black River. At the request of the family donations to the M.S. Society or the Miramichi Physically Disabled and Handicapped Association Inc. would be appreciated.
