DEAKINS, Marie Regina Marie passed away at the Chinook Care Centre on June 15, 2008 at 82 years of age. She was born on a small farm near Assiniboia, Saskatchewan on February 22, 1926. Marie moved to Calgary in 1953, where she met and married John in 1954. She enjoyed gardening, bowling, sewing, knitting, and other crafts. She was a great cook and baker, and loved to entertain family and friends. She was an active member of Sacred Heart Church until her health prevented regular attendance. Although Marie's mobility declined in later years, she was blessed with a keen mind and a good sense of humour until her final days. Marie will be remembered by everyone who knew and loved her, including her daughters Linda (Gerard) Lukas and Brenda (Richard) Jones and her grandchildren Kallie, Kyle, and Matthew Lukas, and her sister Evelyn Anderson. Marie was preceded in death by her husband, John, her parents, Leon and Barbara, and her brothers, Lawrence and Michael. Sincere thanks to the staff at the Chinook Care Centre for their special care, empathy, and attention they provided while Marie was a resident at the centre. A Memorial Service will be held in the Chapel of MOUNTAIN VIEW FUNERAL HOME on Friday, June 20, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. Inurnment to follow in Eden Brook Memorial Gardens. Donations may be made in Marie's name to the Alberta Heart and Stroke Foundation (200, 119 - 14 Street.
