DOWNIE, Cora May 1917 - 2008 Cora Downie passed away peacefully May 27, 2008 and will be dearly missed and forever remembered by her son Keith, daughter-in-law Jenny, and three grandchildren, Michael, Scott and Brian, her sister Bernice McNeil (of Olds) and two great-grandchildren, Erin and Lukas. Cora was predeceased by her son David. Cora was born in Bangor, Saskatchewan and moved with her family, including brothers Stan and Lloyd, to Camrose, Alberta, where as a teenager, Cora played an old pump organ for Sunday School in the country school and attended high school. She then moved to Calgary where she met and married David Downie in 1938. Soon after, their first son David arrived and was Cora's anchor while her husband was overseas for six years during WWII. They lived in the Winston Heights community for many years where their two sons grew up. David passed away in 1982 after forty-four happy years of marriage. Cora was a member of Chalmer's Presbyterian Church and its choir from its beginning. She was also a life member of Chalmer's Women's Missionary Society and a fifty-year member of North Star Chapter OES (Order of Eastern Star). The family would like to express their sincere appreciation for the excellent care and compassion Cora received from the staff at the Beverly Centre and Carewest Sarcee. A Memorial Service will be held at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 400 Midpark Boulevard S.E., Calgary, Alberta T2X 2P4 on Tuesday, June 3, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. If desired, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Trinity Presbyterian Church.
