ROY , Warren March 26, 1929 - May 17, 2009 Warren Stephen Roy passed away peacefully with his family at his side on Sunday, May 17, 2009 at the age of 80 years. Warren is survived by his wife of fifty years, Heidi; brother Frank; sons Robin (Jessica), Ryan (Kathy), Patrick (Shelly); daughter Margaret (Ron); and grandchildren Lilly and Thomas. Warren grew up on a grain farm near Tullis in southern Saskatchewan. He took his senior high school at the Technical Collegiate in Saskatoon where, with the benefit of the mentorship of Ernie Lindner, his artistic talents began to bloom. Warren attended Teachers' College in Saskatoon where he came under the influence of the landscapist, Wynona Mulcaster. Later he majored in fine arts, taking various practical and theoretical classes at the universities of Saskatchewan, Toronto and Alberta. Warren began his teaching career at Aiktow School near Grainland, Saskatchewan in 1948. In 1951 he moved to Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan, where he taught English and art, and later became art supervisor for district schools. On July 4, 1959, Warren and Heidi were married in the Roman Catholic Chapel at CFB Cold Lake, Alberta. Warren spent the next twenty-five years of his teaching career on the military base teaching English and art, serving one year as vice-principal and twenty years as principal of Ecole Athabasca School. He retired in 1984. Although Warren's greatest love was his family, his avid interest in art was very important throughout his life. He worked in oil, acrylics, tempera and watercolour but he was particularly attracted to graphics. He began with linocuts before moving to serigraphs, a form which he explored in larger formats and increasingly complex designs. Warren, who always treasured lifelong learning and staying abreast of technological advances, focused on computer graphics after moving to Calgary in 1994. Since moving to Calgary, both Warren and Heidi have taken great pleasure in the friendship of their many kind neighbors. A Memorial Service will be held at LEYDEN'S Chapel of Remembrance (corner of 17 Avenue and 2 Street S.W.) on Saturday, May 30, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. Memorial donations in Warren's name may be made to the Lung Association of Alberta & NWT (P.O.
