LAY, Elizabeth "Betty" Mary (nee Challis) Peacefully in her sleep after a painful struggle with illness at the Montfort Hospital on December 13, 2004 in her 91st year. Born in Barrie, Ontario, she was the eldest daughter of the late Albert and Edith (nee Hemming) Challis. She is survived by her children Brian, Judy, Helen "Georgia" and John (Lilly), her grandchildren; Robert (Amanda), Tracy and Sylvia. She will be fondly remembered by grandkids from her extended families; Christopher, Christian and Christine Roger; Mark Mueca and William and Kyle Barber, as well as friends across Canada in Britain, in the Phillipines and all around the world. She was predeceased by her husband Robert Ernest Lay, eldest son Robert Arthur Lay, her brothers George, Clifford and Hubert and sister, Margaret. She will be deeply missed by all who loved and adored her. She was a former employee of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and the House of Commons of Canada. Friends may visit at the St. Laurent Chapel of Hulse Playfair & McGarry, 1200 Ogilvie Rd. at Aviation Parkway on Thursday December 16, 2004 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel on Friday December 17, 2004 at 11:30 am. Interment to follow at Beechwood Cemetery. Published in the Ottawa Citizen from 12/15/2004 - 12/16/2004.
