PERSSON, Colleen 2009-07-11 Colleen Mary (Stokes) April 16, 1927 -July 7, 2009 - With great sadness, the family of Colleen Persson announces her passing at the Thunder Bay Regional Hospital. She will be lovingly remembered and missed by Elmer, her beloved husband of 59 years, her children Jane (Stephen Morley) of Toronto, Joan (Jim Hammel) of Miami, Gord (Ruth Fulford) of Kakabeka Falls; grandchildren Ben, Brett, Chris and Kristin; sisters Jean Connor (Mississauga) and Marie Stokes (Thunder Bay) and uncle Wilf Gagnon (Thunder Bay). She was predeceased by her parents Walter John Stokes and Eva Marie Gagnon; daughter-in-law Brenda Sutton; siblings Jack and Donald Stokes (Schreiber), Irene Cosgrove (Calgary), Marion Johnston (Los Angeles), and Wally Stokes (Thunder Bay). Born in Schreiber, Colleen started her career as a telephone operator for Bell, before roles at the paper mill in Marathon and then the Kimberly Clark Mill in Terrace Bay. Later she was Head Librarian of the Terrace Bay Public Library. Volunteer work included serving as Secretary of the Figure Skating Club and the Catholic Women’s League, and as Treasurer of the Horticultural Club. Overall, Colleen lived in Terrace Bay from 1950 until retiring to Thunder Bay in 1987. In earlier years Colleen sang with the Ladies‘ Community Choir and St. Martin’s Church Choir. In retirement she was an active member of the Thunder Bay 55 Plus Centre. A Memorial Service celebrating Colleen‘s life will be held at St. Dominic’s Roman Catholic Church, 130 Redwood Ave., Thunder Bay on Saturday, July 18, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. Reception to follow.
