Nickolaj Holm Pedersen WWII Veteran- North Shore Regiment 1922 - 2009 The family announces with great sorrow his death on May 8th, 2009 at the Grand Falls Manor Veteran's Wing in his 86th year. Predeceased by his loving wife Marion (nee Murchison) Pedersen in 2004. Nickolaj was born in Denmark on June 8th, 1922. At the age of 4 he immigrated to Canada on the HMS Montclaire with his parents Caroline and Niels Pedersen along with his siblings Ole, Greta and Elise. Dear father of Dr. Mary Pedersen of Kingston ON, Joyce (Peter Embleton) Pedersen of Fredericton NB, Joan (Jim) McCue of Woodstock NB, Cheryl (David) Sutton of Aurora ON, Dorothy (Graeme) Lovatt of Las Vegas, NV and Nikki (Daniel) Wood of Timmins ON. Loving grandfather of Jamie, Nickolaj, Christopher, Alexander, Krista, Kimberly, Benjamin, Mark, Danielle and Nickolaj. Great-grandfather of Ella. Also survived by his two sisters Greta Hansen of New Denmark NB and Ester (Vince) Kennedy of Red Rock ON. He was predeceased by brothers Ole and Herluf and sister, Elise Vincent. Nickolaj completed agriculture school in Fredericton and later spent 5 years in the army. He was an accomplished signal man for the North Shore Regiment. After D-day, he made it back to the homestead (New Denmark, NB) where he met the local school teacher at a Valentines dance. Marion and Nick were married on June 3, 1949 and celebrated 54 years of joyous union. Nickolaj dedicated his life to his family and a successful potato farm. He was an active Legion, Mason and Elk member. At this time, the family wishes to thank all the staff at the Veterans' Home in Grand Falls for the care provided to their father. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, May 12th at 2:00 pm from St. Peter's Lutheran Church in New Denmark with Pastor David Knudson officiating. The organist was Sonja Petersen and hymns selected were: "How great thou art", "I know that my Redeemer lives" and "Day by day". The pallbearers were Nickolaj McCue, Alexander Brown, Kimberly Sutton, Danielle Wood, Christopher Brown, Krista Sutton, Benjamin Wood and Nickolaj Wood. Interment was in the adjoining cemetery.
