Mr. John "Jock" Taylor Smith December 24, 1915 - December 19, 2004 Funeral arrangements by Avalon & Surrey Funeral Home Smith – Jock “John” Taylor passed away suddenly on Sunday December 19, 2004 from pneumonia. Born in Montreal, Jock had a healthy life and varied career in the military (RCAF) during the war, professional sports- Vancouver Canucks, education – teaching and principal – Surrey School district, and politics – Municipal in Surrey and federal. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Mary Forbes Douglas, devoted daughters Elizabeth and Jacqueline and greatly missed by his beloved grandsons Richard and Christopher, as well as many friends, colleagues and neighbors. Jock was predeceased by his sister Mary Graham, and Uncle Dave & Auntie Chris Smith. He is dearly remembered by sister- in-law Chrissie, nephews Dave (Heidi) & Doug (Suzie, Jared & Natalie). Jock was always respected for his intelligence, honesty, hard work dancing to Dal Richards Band or debating the merits of the latest news on social and political programs. He was the patriarch of the family and “Papa” will be forever loved, remembered and missed. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to Canuck Place or the Heart and Stroke Foundation in memory of Jock. There will be a private family funeral at Avalon Surrey Funeral Home in January 2005.
