MARY VIITASAARI 1921-2004 The family announces with great sorrow her death on Wednesday December 22, 2004 at the Timmins and District Hospital at the age of 83. Loving mother of Diane Beaven. Will be sadly missed by her grandchildren Heather Beaven and Ellard (Brenda) Beaven. Will also be missed by her great-grandchildren Amy Mary, David and Jack Beaven. Dear sister-in-law to Vera Thomas. Will be fondly remembered by her nieces Barbara Bromley, Susan Merriman and Mary Stanley. Predeceased by brother Roy Thomas, sister Florence Bromley and nephew John Thomas. Mary was born in Toronto on January 10, 1921. She started working at the young age of 13 cleaning homes with some of the finn ladies in town. She then later worked in a boarding house. Mary was one of the first women to own a business in the city. It was in 1948 that she became proprietor of the Three Star Hotel for forty years. She was known to be very active in the community dart, shuffleboard and crib leagues. At the age of 66 she began working at the Timmins Daily Press until she retired at 75. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday December 28th, 2004 at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Cremation will follow. Donations to the Daffodil Terrace would be greatly appreciated.
