LYONS, Rodney John - On Monday June 8th 2009, Rodney John Lyons (formerly of Meaford) passed away peacefully at home in London in his 74th year. Rodney was predeceased by his parents David and Neoma Lyons and by his in-laws Samuel and Vivian Gray and also by his brother Harold Lyons, sisters-in-law Marjorie Pierce and Phyllis Gray, brothers-in-law Hugh Reid, Gerald Gray and Wilfred Rightmeyer. Loving and devoted husband of 56 years to Vera Lyons (nee Gray). Loving father to Stephen Lyons and Michelle Lyons Day (husband Bradley Day). Wonderful grandfather of Tera, Carrie, Courtney of British Columbia, and Samuel, Rebecca and Nicole Day of London. Great-grandfather to Summer, Ridge, Noel, Abby and Ava all of British Columbia. Loving brother to Harold (deceased) and Pearl Lyons of Fernleigh, Ontario, Harvey (Berdie) Lyons of Richmond, Ontario, Leonard (Minne) Lyons of Burlington, Ontario, David (Shirley) Lyons of Kemptville, Ontario, June (late Wilfred) Rightmeyer of Frankford, Ontario and Jerene Chandler of Trenton, Ontario. Loving brother-in-law to Cora Reid (late Hugh) of Enterprise, Ontario, Will and Alice Gray of Bath, Ontario, Lyla and Leo DeVreeze of West Port, Ontario, Vi Moon of Kingston, Ontario and Marjorie (deceased) and Ken Pierce of Tamworth, Ontario and the late Gerald and Phyllis Gray of Yarker, Ontario. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Rodney was born in Fernleigh, Ontario and worked all his life in the retail grocery business. He started out his career with Dominion Stores in the Kingston area. His family moved to London where he became the Operations Supervisor for M Loeb Foods. Rodney bought his first I.G.A. store in Meaford, Ontario in 1971 and soon opened another in Owen Sound on the 6th Street hill. Rodney sold his store in Meaford in 1980 and moved to Brighton, Ontario where he owned and operated the I.G.A. store and from there moved to Seaforth where he ran that business until 1996. During his time with Knechtel Foods he was asked by Cranson Knechtel to be the Chief Operating Officer for the organization in Kitchener. Rodney and Vera retired to London in 2000. Rodney was a member of the Masonic Lodge for many years. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be from 7-9 P.M. Friday June 12th at FOREST LAWN MEMORIAL CHAPEL, 1997 Dundas Street (at Wavell), London. Service in the chapel on Saturday June 13th at 11 A.M. Private interment at a later date in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Free Methodist Church, 402 Commissioners Road West, London, Ontario N6J 1Y3 or the Lung Association or the charity of your choice.
