MARSHMAN, John Francis - ( 1920- 2009) - Died peacefully Friday morning at the I.O.O.F. Home in Barrie, ON. Born February 14th 1920, he was predeceased by his first wife, Terry (Mills), his second wife, Bev (Matson), and his five brothers and five sisters. Lovingly remembered by his children Michael (Bev) of New Hamburg, Brian (Ann) of Alliston, Denise Simmons (Peter) of Washago, and Kevin (Jo-anne) of Toronto, his step children Virginia Burdan (Pat) of Edmonton, Don Fitzgerald of Halton Hills, Nancy Goodson (Tim) of Hastings, and Dale Fitzgerald of Toronto, 17 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren. John was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Canadian Air Force. Following his career as a successful salesman, he and Bev retired to Barrie in 1982. John had a zest for life and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Those who met him were charmed by his friendliness and easy going manner. John was a good athlete and played many sports in his youth. He later channeled his athletic interest into curling, with many trophies attesting to his skill. In latter years John suffered from dementia; his last three years were spent contentedly with the very capable and loving staff at the IOOF Home. Our heart felt thanks to them for the loving care they extended to Dad. Cremation has taken place. Visitation and a celebration of John's life will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Society of Canada or a charity of your choice.
