Murray SPENCE

SPENCE, (Arthur) Murray - Passed, with his family by his side, on Sept 4, 2009, in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Second youngest brother to Bob, Nan, John, Eileen, Ruby and Wendy. Survived by his wife of 57 years, Rose Doreen(nee Brownscombe), Eldest son Christopher Roderick of Brighton, England, Nicholas (Maureen)(Marilyn) of Calgary, Wendy (Kim), Adrian (Gene), Ruby (John d)(Eric), all from Brantford Ontario, Thelma (Blair) of Ingersoll Ontario, Karina (Rob) of Peterborough Ontario and Christopher (Sherry) of Paris Ontario. Also sadly missed by the many grand and great- grandchildren. Murray was born on Oct 9, 1922, and raised in Sheffield, England. At age 18, he became a proud member of the RAF. During WWII, he flew with the vaunted pathfinder squadrons, who lit the way for the British night bomber raids over the skys of Germany. After the war Murray held a variety of positions in London. One of those was as chief of staff at a movie theatre, where he me! t a beautiful young usherette, fell in love, and married his ÒRoseÒ. In 1957, seeking greener pastures, Murray and his young family, emigrated to Canada, originally settling in the Vaughn area. Brantford, but for a brief stint in Peterborough, soon became the main region from which the Spence family grew. Murray became a Canada postal worker in the early '70s, and held that position until his retirement in 1982. He and his beloved Rose then made Calgary their base camp, from which they spent their golden years chasing the sun, travelling all over North America. A memorial to Murray's life will be held on Sept 27th, between 2-4pm, at the Royal Canadian (Dunston) Legion, Branch 90, 9 Tolgate Road, Brantford, Ontario.
