SLINN, John E. - Following a courageous struggle John died peacefully in his 85th year on Thursday September 17th, 2009 at the Greater Niagara General Hospital with loving family at his side. He was the most cherished friend and loving husband of Muriel (Scotcher) for 62 years. He is also survived by his children John William in China, Pauline (Godfried) Verhaeghe in Mississauga, Kathy (Brian) Orr and David of Niagara Falls and Brenda of Brampton. Ten grandchildren Nairn, Carrey, Erin and Rachel in Ontario, Jordan, Cody, Daniel, Riley, Riana and Nigel of B.C. and four great-grandchildren also survive John. A sister Joyce MacVicar of Nepean and sister- in-law Vera Cummings of Sidney, B.C. and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents John W. and Daisy Slinn, sisters Lillian and Verna, brothers-in-law Oliver MacVicar and Jack Campaigne and niece Jacqueline Campaigne. John served in the RCAF 1943- 46 following two years employment in essential war industry in Hamilton. He was employed for 38 years in various positions at Provincial Engineering (Dominion Bridge Company). John volunteered in many community organizations throughout his life. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club Central of Niagara Falls and the Golden Central Club having held all offices of the club. He was awarded a Mel Osbourne Fellowship for his participation on Kiwanis projects. He received the first Niagara Peninsula Heart and Stroke volunteer award of the year and was on the board of Project Share in its early years. In later years he enjoyed the fellowship of the J Singers and the membership of Christ Church Anglican. Cremation has taken place. John's family will receive friends at MORSE & SON FUNERAL HOME 5917 Main Street, on Tuesday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. A service to celebrate his life will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday morning at 11 o'clock.
