SCHMID, Anna - of Port Colborne passed away peacefully in Port Colborne General Hospital on Thursday September 17, 2009 at the age of 90. Born in Switzerland, Anna moved to Cape Town, South Africa in 1950 with her husband Henry and daughter Elsbeth and then to Port Colborne in 1953, where son Walter was born in 1959. The family resided in Port Colborne until 1974 when they moved to Newmarket, Owen Sound and later Brampton. Anna and Henry returned to the Port Colborne home they had built together in 1984, both enjoying their extensive gardens and orchard. In retirement they were able to travel and especially enjoyed their trips to Disney World with their grandchildren Lisa and Chris. A member of the Central United Church, Anna was a loving mother and devoted wife. Anna was predeceased by Henry in 2000. Dear mother of Elsbeth Rasch and her husband Desmond of Port Colborne and Walter Schmid and his wife Cheryl of Huntsville. Grandma will be sadly missed by, Lisa, Chris, Evan, Kelsey, Gillian and Holly and great grandchildren Courtney, Ben, Rachel and Ethan. Also survived by, her brother-law Karl Schmid and his wife Hedi, of Boston Mass. and sister-in-laws Alice Schmid and Irma Birtcher of Switzerland. Cremation is to take place. The Schmid Family will receive visitors at the Port Colborne Chapel of the DAVIDSON FUNERAL HOMES, 135 Clarence Street on Saturday, September 26, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. until the time of the Memorial Service at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Steven Davis of the Central United Church officiating. Interment of ashes to follow at the Oakwood Cemetery. In memory of mom, donations may be made to Port Colborne Meals on Wheels whose assistance allowed her to stay in the home that she loved well into her nineties. Thanks to PSW's, Marla and Irene, and the caring staff at Port Colborne General Hospital and especially my sister Elsbeth who has been here in Port Colborne for mom for so many years.
