SHANNON, Robert (Bob) F. J. - passed away peacefully and surrounded by his family on Tuesday, September 15th, at the Soldiers' Memorial Hospital in Orillia. He was in his 73rd year. Darling husband of Betty Shannon (nee Nesbitt), Bob died as he and Betty prepared to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on October 17th of this year. Loving father to daughter, Leisha Lingelbach (Ralph) and son, Frank Shannon (Mira), he was an adored grandfather of thirteen and a beloved great- grandfather of six. Predeceased by his parents, Dr. Frank Shannon and Grace Shannon (nee Walker) of Barrie, he is survived by his loving sister, Suzanne Hogg. Bob began his career as a photo journalist, first with the Orillia Packet and Times, and then the Toronto Telegram. After nearly 10 years as an accomplished newspaper photographer, he entered public relations, assuming progressively senior positions at the Borough of North York, the Government of Canada's Ministry of Indian Affairs and Northern Development, and Energy Mines and Resources Canada, until his retirement in 1995. Loved and admired for his kindness, compassion, humour, and unyielding devotion to his family, he is sorely missed and held dearly in our hearts. A memorial service will be held at the Sheba Shrine Centre at 142 John St., in Barrie, on Monday, September 21st, beginning at 1:00 p.m. A reception will follow the service.
