ASHURST, Ethel Mary - While her body was failing, her will and spirit were strong. Ethel Mary Ashurst (nee Breary) born January 7, 1917 in Ottawa, lost her courageous battle in the early morning of September 20th, 2009. Predeceased by her beloved husband David Wesley, daughter Emily and son in-law Wilfred “Cub“ Neely. Survived and greatly missed by daughter Francis Rintoul (Donald) of Carleton Place. Cherished Grandmother of Gerry (Tracey) Neely, Jenny Amyotte (Marc), David (Suzanne) Neely, Leslie Ann Garagan, Kevin (Betty), Karen and Christopher Rintoul. Proud Great Grandmother to Emily (Garagan - predeceased), Shannon (Dave), Shawn (Christine), Nathan, Liam, Seamus, Megan, Dwight, Peyton, Sierra, Elijah and Emily (Neely). Survived by loving sister Daisy (Cecil) Sabourin. Predeceased by parents Harry Charles and Emily Jane (Butler) Breary. Sisters Nell, Chris, Bessie, Nancy, Josephine and Brother Jim. Will be sorely missed by her canine companion, Joe. Ethel was an avid reader since she was taught to read at the age of four. She learned to swim at the age of 65 with two of her elder sisters, she also enjoyed oil painting and writing short stories. Family will receive friends in the MARTYN FUNERAL HOME (across from City Hall) on Thursday, September 24 from 6-9 PM. Funeral service will be held on Friday, September 25 at 1:00p.m in the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
