DEVINE, Melvin 2009-09-29 With heavy hearts the family of Melvin Devine announces his sudden passing on Friday, September 25, 2009 in St. Joseph‘s Hospital. Born on September 6, 1940, Melvin was raised in Sault Ste Marie. He married the love of his life, Patricia LeClair on October 20, 1962 and together enjoyed 44 years of marriage until her passing in 2007. Mel was truly a devoted family man with many interests including boating, bowling and travelling home to the Sault at every opportunity. He owned and operated Franks Service and Sunys Gas Bar for many years. Mel was a very hard worker who never judged his co-workers or friends. A man with a strong character, Mel‘s presence was always apparent. Mourning his loss, Mel leaves behind his daughters: Denise Rees, Dawn (Mike) Kelly, and Melanie (Graham) Erickson; honourary daughter Deneen Dutchak; grandchildren: Sarah and Ashley (Ryan) Rees, Shawn Kelly, Zachary and Emma Erickson; brothers: Ron (Valerie), Terry (Heidi), and Bobby; mother-in-law Hazel LeClair; sisters-in-law: Karen (Gerry) Gionette, Phyllis (Ron) Ellis, and Cathy (Steve) Myhal; brother-in-law Al (Dara) LeClair. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive. Mel was predeceased by his wife, Patricia, and son-in-law David Rees. As per his wishes, cremation has taken place and Visitation for family and friends will be held on Tuesday evening, September 29th from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. in the Harbourview Funeral Centre, 499 North Cumberland Street. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday morning, September 30th at 10:30 a.m. in the Chapel of Harbourview Funeral Centre, presided by Rev. Richard Kowalchuk of Corpus Christi Church. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mel‘s memory may be made to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation – Northern Cancer Fund, or to St. Joseph‘s Foundation, designated to the Hospice Unit.
