BORUTSKI, Edmund 2009-09-29 It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our dear husband, father, grandfather and friend, Edmund Borutski, on Saturday, September 26th, 2009, at the age of 78. Ed, the youngest of 22 children was born on March 10, 1931 at the family homestead in Killaloe Ontario. On October 7th, 1961 Ed married the love of his life, Irene. They traveled north to Schreiber, where they spent the next 47 years raising a family. Ed was employed as a Road Superintendent with the Township of Schreiber for 14 years and as a Maintenance Foreman for the Lake Superior Board of Education (Superior Greenstone) for 18 years, up to his retirement at the age of 64. Ed was also a member of the Schreiber Volunteer Fire Dept. and even spent some time as Chief of the department. Ed served on Schreiber Municipal Council for 16 years and on the Parish Council for 15 years. In the last few years he was able to recapture some childhood roots by gardening at the Little Sprouts Community Garden. Ed was a long-time parishioner of Holy Angel‘s Roman Catholic Church in Schreiber. In earlier years, he was an active member of the Knights of Columbus. In recent years he spent countless hours doing maintenance around the church and its grounds. His latest project at the church was serving as the chairman of the 100th Anniversary Committee. We are certain that he will be smiling down on us as we celebrate in October. Up until his death, Ed still repaired and maintained furnaces in the area and performed odd jobs for people around town. His favorite past time was fishing in the Schreiber area, whether it be up the mill road in the summer or ice-fishing up north in the winter. Ed was predeceased by his parents Anastazie and Annie Borutski, and by 12 brothers and 6 sisters. Ed will be lovingly remembered by his wife of almost 48 years, Irene (Yantha) and his 7 children: Anne-Marie (Dan) Bourgeault, Catherine (David) Lengyl, Matthew (Sue) Borutski, Chris (Diane) Borutski, Cecile (David) Mayry, Donna (Pat) Halonen, Donald (Tosha) Borutski. He was the cherished “Poppy” of Adam, Samantha, Koral, Zachary, Lyssa, Daniel, Brianna, Sydney, Brodie, Riley, Jonathan, Alex, Abby, and Calli and great –grandfather of Haley. Vigil Prayers will take place on Tuesday, September 29th beginning at 8pm at Holy Angel‘s Roman Catholic Church in Schreiber. Resurrection Mass will be held on Wednesday September 30th at 11:00am also at Holy Angel‘s Church, presided by Father Alex Barrion with interment to follow in Schreiber cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to the King Funeral Home Ltd. in Schreiber. As expressions of sympathy, donations in Edmunds memory can be made to the Holy Angel‘s Memorial Fund. Live-Laugh-Love
