REED , Pamela Doreen Whatmore November 18, 1955 - September 11, 2009 Pam, beloved wife and best friend of Chip, lost her battle with cancer early Friday morning. She is survived by her sister Pat (Bob), uncle Derek (Phyllis), aunt Dorothy and numerous cousins and friends. Pam was predeceased by her parents, Gordon and Doreen Whatmore. Pam was born and raised in Calgary. She received her B.Ed. degree from the University of Calgary and M.Ed. from Memphis State University. Pam was an imaginative and innovative master teacher and taught every elementary grade at schools in Tennessee and Calgary. In September 2005, Pam began her "dream job" as principal of Horace Allen School in Coleman, Alberta. Pam was an accomplished seamstress and quilter and often spent many of her (and Chip's) summers exploring fabric stores in the US and Canada. She "lived" in her sewing room, surrounded by her collection of colorful fabrics, patterns and on-going projects. Her points always matched! Pam traveled widely with Chip and lived briefly in Africa and Central America. Her time in the Sudan was especially treasured, as she became "one of the girls" in the village where she was living. In 2003, Pam realized a lifelong dream and toured Kenyan game parks, getting "up close and personal" with the "critters". Pam loved good books, good wine, good conversation and chocolate. She enjoyed camping, hiking, cross-country skiing and riding her bike. She was a fabulous cook. She loved her home near Lundbreck Falls; its rooms over-flowed with sewing creations, travel artifacts, seasonal decorations and photographs of people special to her. A celebration of Pam's life will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, September 19 at Horace Allen School, 2002 - 76 Street, Coleman, Alberta. Donations can be made to the Horace Allen School Library (Box 400, Coleman, AB T0M 0M0), in lieu of flowers. Published in the Calgary Herald from 9/16/2009- 9/17/2009
