ROWEBOTTOM, Lorne April 27, 1921- September 8, 2009 Lorne Rowebottom of Vancouver, formerly of Ottawa and Cantley, QC. Born in Victoria, April 27, 1921 and died in Vancouver, September 9, 2009. Lorne was predeceased by his beloved wife, Lorna, in 1982 and is lovingly remembered by his brother, Howard and his nieces, Kim Brown and Tori Barone (Ed) all of Crescent City California, by his nephews George Watts (Anne) of Bothell, WA and John Watts (Anne) of Coquitlam BC, his niece, Dorothy Watts (Larry Young) of Vancouver, his stepson, Keith Yardley (Norma) of North Vancouver, and by his many cherished friends. Born in Victoria, Lorne joined Statistics Canada in the 1943, eventually becoming Assistant Chief Statistician in the 1960's. He served with distinction there until his retirement in 1984 after which he moved to Victoria, BC. Lorne continued to spend his summers in his beloved Cantley where he maintained strong connections with his friends and former colleagues. A bon vivant , Lorne lived fully and explored life deeply, taking an interest in art, music, literature, politics, nature and philosophy. He loved a rousing debate, a well-prepared dinner, an aria sung by Renee Fleming, and a glass of Tavel. Most importantly, Lorne was a kind and generous friend who valued and treasured his friendships with people of all ages. A Memorial Service for Lorne took place in Vancouver on September 15, 2009. Lorne's friends are invited to the burial service which will take place at St. James Cemetery in Hull (corner of Tache and St. Joseph) on Monday, September 21, 2009 at 1:00 pm followed by a gathering for remembrance at 2:00 pm at the cottage Lorne built at Cantley.
