WILSON, William Everton (Bill), MD Born Montreal, November 7, 1927 Died Westwood, California, April 6, 2009 Bill was the son of William Thomas Wilson and Dorothy Lillian Emberley, and grew up in Montreal and Ottawa/Hull. He was predeceased by his brother Thomas and his son Eric. He is survived by his wife Rufina Go (California); his sons Peter and Timothy (and their mother Marilyn); his sons Antoine, Frederic and and Alexandre (and their mother Louise); and by eight grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters, Nancy Wilson Allen (Ottawa) and Martha Jones (Georgetown, ON). Following graduation from Glebe High School, Ottawa, Bill served in the Army Reserve. He studied science and medicine at McGill University and became a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS). After completing his training at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, Bill pursued his career as an orthopedic surgeon at the Royal Victoria and other hospitals in Montreal. In 1978 he moved to California where he taught and practiced in surgery for more than 25 years. After closing his office he continued working in various hospitals and surgery centres in Los Angeles and Orange Counties, and for the US Army at Fort Leonard Wood in Missouri up to the end of his life. Bill led a full life: he was a voracious reader and his adventurous spirit took him around the world. In 1947 he was a member of the Muskox Expedition, the largest ever military expedition ot the Canadian Arctic and, while at university, he spent summers on the Calanus Research Vessel in the Arctic. He lived and taught for a year in Saudi Arabia; helped run trauma centres in Peshawar, Pakistan, and travelled throughout North and Central America, Europe and Asia. A Memorial Service was held in California in April. His cremated remains will be buried next to his parents at St. James' Cemetery in Hull, Quebec. Published in the Ottawa Citizen on 9/19/2009
