LOCKE , Joan Margaret (nee Curliss) December 9, 1925 - September 19, 2009 It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Joan Locke, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, on Saturday, September 19, 2009 at the Sarcee Hospice, with her family by her side, after a short and courageous battle with cancer, at the age of 83 years. Mom was a precious gift who was taken too soon. Her passion was caring for and spending time with her family. She enjoyed her garden, pets and all God's creations. Her sense of humour was a gift that many enjoyed over the years. Joan is survived by her loving husband of sixty-one years, Clayton; six children, Kathleen (Jack) Johnson, Judy Locke, Wendy (Brian) Portfors, Patty (Martin) Davidson, Warren Locke (MaryAnn), and Robert (Lesley) Locke; nine grandchildren, Delaney (Alene) Johnson, Jeremy (Adina) Johnson, Tricia Leadbeater, Kevin (Sheena) Leadbeater, Sarah and Michael Davidson, Brittany and Bryan Locke and Christopher Locke; one great-grandchild Oliver Johnson; and niece Dana Courtright. Joan was predeceased by her parents, Maude and Obley Curliss, sister Jean (Ivan) Courtright, brother Dan (Edna) Curliss, and niece Maryann. Mom, you will always be on our minds. If love could help, you would live forever. 'Tis the laughter we will remember. Rest in peace Mom, you made us all smile. At Mom's request there will not be a Funeral Service. We ask that you keep her fondly in your memories. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com . If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Calgary Zoo, c/o Robert Locke, 1300 Zoo Road N.E., Calgary, AB T2E 7V6 ( www.calgaryzoo.com ). We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Mark Sosnowski, community care nurse Ann Wood, and all the nursing staff at Sarcee Hospice for their wonderful care and kindness to Joan and her family. In living memory of Joan Locke, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Fish Creek Chapel, 14441 BANNISTER ROAD S.E. Telephone: 403-256-9575.
