OBITUARY ROBERT A. PEATE Bob died peacefully on Sept. 19, 2009 with his loving family by his bedside at Green Mountain Nursing Home, Colchester, Vermont. Born May 4, 1924 in Montreal, the son of the late George Alfred and Amy (Shute) Peate; predeceased by his brother Elbert and sister Doris. Bob grew up in Westmount. He was a professional drummer in the Montreal area and was playing at a New Years Eve dance in 1942 when he met the girl who was to become his wife of 62 years, Mary Todd. Bob was a pilot in the Royal Canadian Air Force during the Second World War. He succeeded his brother as president of the family business, Peate Musical Supplies, founded by his father in 1899, and now presided over by his son Rick, the third generation. After a long and successful career in musical instrument retail and distribution, Bob moved to California in 1980 and to Vermont in 1993. He is survived by his loving wife Mary, his children George, Rick, Candy Padula, daughters-in-law Michele and Debbie, son-in-law Chuck, grandchildren Daniel (and wife Maria), Mary Clare, Joseph, John, Angela, James, great-grandchildren Sophia, Madeline and Daniel, and several nieces.
