RUTA, Olimpia (nee Duduk) (WWII Polish and Allied Army Veteran; Retired Nurse, Perley Hospital) Olimpia Ruta, born June 23, 1921 in Kuncowszczyzna, Poland, passed away peacefully in hospital on September 26, 2009, surrounded by her family. Predeceased by her loving husband Marian, daughter Krystyna, brother Piotr and sister Jadwiga (Dr. Jerzy Dobrowolski). Survived by sons Andrew (Basia) and Richard (Karen), along with her adoring grandchildren Christopher (Marla), Jonathan, Emily, Kathleen, Matthew and Tomek; sisters Eugenia (Zenon Gulczynski) and Helena (late Franciszek Steglinski) of Chicago, IL; Irena (late Ryszard Winogron) and Aleksandra (Larry Gaynor) of Ottawa, ON; as well as many nieces and nephews. The family wishes to acknowledge and thank those dedicated professionals and health care workers who were so kind and compassionate in times of greatest need. Special thanks to Veterans Affairs Canada for their continued support and assistance. Visitation on Monday at McEvoy-Shields Funeral Home 1411 Hunt Club Road at Albion Road from 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. with Prayers at 7:30 p.m. Funeral Mass on Wednesday at 10:00 AM at St. Hyacinth Church, (corner of Louisa & Lebreton Sts.) Ottawa, ON. followed by interment at Notre Dame Cemetery.
