HOLLINGSWORTH, Margaret Doris (nee Crowe) Passed away peacefully in her sleep, surrounded by her family, at West End Villa Friday evening, Sept. 25, 2009, 20 days after her 94th birthday. Margaret was predeceased by her beloved husband, Alton (1996); seven brothers; her daughter Margaret Elizabeth (1945); her great grandson Taggart Farquharson (2000) and her cousin and life-long best friend, Margaret McElroy (2003). Her large and loving family who are left to remember her include one sister, Isabel Simpson; four children: Doug (Lynda); Bill (Elaine); Ann; and Lois Simmons (Doug Yonson); eight grandchildren: Heather (Wade Farquharson); Jill; Vicky (Peter Dunn); Brenda (Richard Auger); David (Rebecca); Kathryn Simmons (Michael Flynn); Meghan Simmons; and Andrew Simmons; and 10 great grandchildren: Cheyanne and Lochlen Farquharson; Alexa Hollingsworth; Connor and Erin Dunn; Zachary and Jordan Auger; and Owen, Amy and Kylie Hollingsworth. An avid swimmer, lover of cottage life and nature watcher, Margaret instilled in her children and grandchildren a passion for the feeling of grass under bare feet and the breeze off the water. She was a baker like no other, rolling shortbread cookies for St. Luke's Anglican Church at Christmas and dishing up an unparalleled butterscotch pie. She could play all the oldies on the piano, by ear, and loved to take requests. Margaret was a friend of Rideau Regional Centre in Smiths Falls and was instrumental in fundraising for their good works. Above all, Margarets affinity for children and easy laugh made her the heart of the family. She will be dearly missed. Friends are invited to remember Margaret at Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, Central Chapel, 315 McLeod St. on Sat. Oct. 3 from 9 a.m. to time of service, in the chapel at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Candlelighters (Childhood Cancer Support Programs), 311 Richmond Road, Suite 201 Ottawa, ON K1Z 6X3, or via candlelighters.net/ . The family wishes to express its thanks to the staff of West End Villa for their compassion and wonderful care. Published in the Ottawa Citizen from 9/29/2009 - 10/1/2009
