KAMIENIECKI, Rev. Joseph John C.R. - Died peacefully on Wednesday, September 30, 2009 at St. Joseph's Villa in Dundas, at the age of 93. Fr. Joe was born in Essen, West Germany in 1916, son of John and Mary. In 1920, the family moved to Poland, settling in Poznan. Fr. Joe entered the novitiate of the Congregation of the Resurrection in Krakow in 1934, and professed first vows in 1935. In 1936 Fr. Joe began his studies in the philosophy and theology at Jan Kazimierz University, and professed perpetual vows in 1938. When the theology faculty closed in 1939 because of the start of World War II, Fr. Joe continued studies for the priesthood in the one of the religious houses. He was ordained on April 23, 1940 and spent the next five years teaching catechism in schools and secretly in homes. After the war, Fr. Joe returned to school and completed his master's degree in Theology in 1947. He taught high school religion until 1949 when he became assistant pastor and religion instructor at Resurrection Church in Drawsko Pomorskie. For the next twenty years, he served in various parishes in Poland. In 1972 Fr. Joe moved to Canada to serve at St. Joseph's Parish, Brantford. He became assistant pastor at St. Stanislaus Parish, Hamilton in 1977, and remained there until recently. He was hospitalized at S.t. Joseph's hospital after a falling at his residence. After surgery, he was moved to St. Joseph's Villa because of poor health. Fr. Joe is predeceased by two sisters, Agnes and Anne. Visitation will be at St. Anne's Church, 120 Sherman Avenue North, Hamilton from 3:00 - 9:00 P.M. on Monday, October 5, 2009. An English wake service will be held on Monday at 7 P.M. Followed by the rosary in Polish at 8 P.M. The Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, October 6, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Anne's Church. Interment will be in the priests section of Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Burlington. Donations to the St. Stanislaus Building Fund or the Congregation of the Resurrection Retirement Fund would be appreciated.
