BABICHUK, Mary Louise (nee Lovis) 2009-10-29 It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Mary Louise Babichuk (nee Lovis), age 88, of Thunder Bay. Mary passed away peacefully at Grandview Lodge on the morning of September 30, 2009. She was born in the Italian village of Annone Veneto in 1920. Her family immigrated to Fort William when she was a young child and Mary spent the rest of her life here. She married Bill Babichuk in 1943 and together they raised three sons and a daughter. Mary worked as a seamstress/tailor in her early years, with a meticulous eye for detail. Later, she and Bill ran the Empire Confectionary with the ’help‘ of her teen boys, a place which became a popular ’hang out‘ in the neighbourhood. Mary was an amazing cook and her kitchen was always the heart of her home. She loved spending time with her family, cherished the summers at camp on Hawkeye Lake and, in her later years, became a ’gambling grandma‘ and had great fun ’winning‘ at the casino. She will always be remembered as a loving wife, a selfless mother and an adoring ’Noni‘. Mary will be fondly remembered by her sons, Bill (Lorna) of London, Ontario, Bob (Nancy), and Brian, and her daughter, Mary Ann (Bob) Kyryluk; her grandchildren, Andrei (Meghan) of Toronto, Michelle (John) Logozzo, Billy Quinn of Calgary, Nicole and Marina Babichuk of London, Ontario, and Alexander Kyryluk; as well as great grandson, Grayson Sherwin, of Toronto. Also surviving is sister-in-law, Lea Lovis, special niece, June Danchuk, and numerous other nieces and nephews. Mary was pre-deceased by her parents, Luigi and Ernesta Lovis, husband, Bill Babichuk, brothers, Gilbert and Peter Lovis, sister-in-law, Dorothy Lovis, and daughter-in-law, Linda Babichuk (nee Buzzie). Cremation has taken place and a Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 2, 2009 at St. Agnes Church, celebrated by Rev. James Panikulam. In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer donations made in Mary‘s memory to the charity of your choice. Online condolences may be made through www.nwfainc.com
