MECH, Ivan 2009-10-02 Mr. Ivan Mech, age 83 years, a resident of Thunder Bay, died in Grandview Lodge, on Thursday, October 1, 2009. Ivan came to Canada in 1947 from Germany and settled in Kapuskasing, where he worked in the bush. Due to an injury, he retired and moved to Thunder Bay to be near family. He was a former member of the Church of the Transfiguration and presently a member of Holy Cross Mass Services at Grandview Lodge. Ivan is survived by his cousin Danny (Joanne) Zanewycz and family, Walter and children Natasha and Christopher, Linda (Fortunato) Colistro and children Michael and Amanda, and Lillian (Joe) Gazzola and children Matthew and Jessica. He is predeceased by his parents, brother and sister, all in the Ukraine. Funeral services for Ivan will be held on Saturday, October 3, 2009 at 10:00am in the Blake Funeral Chapel with Rev. Andrija Petresin of the Church of the Holy Cross officiating. Interment will follow in the Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery. Panachyda will be offered on Friday evening, at 6:00 p.m. in Blake Funeral Chapel. A tree will be planted in memory of Ivan Mech in the Blake Funeral Chapel Memorial Grove.
