SMELLE Sr., Thomas J. - (September 8, 1926 - October 1, 2009) - It is with profound sadness we announce the sudden passing of Tom Smelle. Dad is now reunited with his beloved wife Annie (July 16, 2009) we, his loving children, Linda, Tom & Kathy, Paul & Paula and Marianne will miss him dearly. Dad was a proud grandpa of Holly & Terry Smygwaty, Nathan Smelle (Vanessa) Stacey and Chris Older, Ryan Smelle (Fiancé Teresa). Great grandpa to Grayson, Hailey and Ryan. Tom is survived by sisters Fran & Al Lounsbury, Helen Giroux, brother James Smelle, sister in law Doris Smelle (Carl), brother in law Nick Heculuck, sister in law Emily Heculuck. He is predeceased by brother Paul Smelle and Twin Brother Carl Smelle. He is fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews. Dad played left wing for many hockey clubs: St. Catharine's Jr. A Falcons, Hamilton Pats (Sr. A), Hamilton Tigers (Sr. A), St. John Beavers, Valley Field Braves, Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds and several local teams. Mom was his greatest fan. Dad & Mom were avid fisherman. Dad also loved to throw Horseshoes, especially against brother Carl, Brother in law John. Tom also loved to tell a story and his re-enactment of his many escapades entertained all of us. Dad & Mom built a successful business Niagara Cycle & Sports. Tom is resting at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL CHAPEL, 585 Carlton St., St. Catharines. Visiting hours will be held from 2-4 and 7-9p.m. on Sunday October 4, 2009. Vigil prayers will be said in the funeral home on Sunday at 2 p.m. The Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated on Monday October 5, 2009 at 1p.m. at the Cathedral of St. Catharine of Alexandria, with interment to follow at Victoria Lawn Cemetery.
