BARKER, Mr. Robert Alvin Al - of Delhi. It is with sadness that the family announces the death of Al, at Henderson Hospital, Hamilton on Saturday, October 3, 2009, after a short, but courageous battle with leukemia. He was in his eighty-first year. He was the beloved husband of Shirley (Heatherington) for fifty-nine years; adored and cherished Dad of Heather (Garry Keast); Debbie (Graham Stone, deceased 2009); Diane (Dr. Gary Gurbin); Judy (Reverend John Langton); and much loved Grandpa of Alex and Sam Gurbin, and J.T. Langton. They were his treasures and he delighted in all that they did. He is also survived by sisters Marion Rapley, Dorothy Novinka (Ed), Betty Kshyvieski (Ed), Joyce Cox (Jim), brother Don (Betty), sister-in-law Betty Heatherington, and brother-in-law Bob Heatherington. He was Uncle Al, the kiddies pal to twenty three nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Helena (Beaty) and Cecil Barker, his brothers-in-law Paul Rapley, Dr. Jack Heatherington, and sister-in-law Pat Heatherington, as well as three nephews, Gregory Rapley, Stephen and John Pfau. He will be remembered by all who knew him for his sense of humour, his stories, unique opinions and his caring heart. Friends may call at the MURPHY FUNERAL HOME, Delhi for visitation on Tuesday, October 6th from 2:00 to 4:00 & 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. The funeral will take place at the funeral home on Wednesday, October 7th at 2:00 p.m. with Officiants LPM Cheryl Fitch and Rev. Judy Barker. Reception to follow at the Delhi United Church. A private family burial will follow at a later date. Donations, in memory of Al, to Henderson Hospital, Hamilton, The Delhi United Church U.C.W. or the Delhi Sharing Pantry or the charity of your choice, will be gratefully acknowledged by the family.
