Maurice Alvin MCWATTERS

McWATTERS, Maurice Alvin - Passed away peacefully in the company of his family after a short illness and just shy of his 92nd birthday. Predeceased by Jean his beloved wife after a loving marriage of 67 years. Cherished father of Dorothy, Janis and her husband Jim Barnett, Grayley and his wife Maria Revelis, and Susie and her husband John MacDiarmid. Forever remembered by his grandchildren David Fisher and his wife Sarah Oliver, Sara Pedersen and her husband Daniel, Gillian Fisher, Andrew Fisher, Christopher Barnett and his wife Tanya Dawson, Melissa Fisher, Matthew Barnett and his partner Erin Eirrell- Contant, Josh and Joel McWatters and their mother Catherine French. Loving great-grandfather of Alex, Sam and Scott Barnett, Oliver Fisher and Ross and Beatrice Fisher. He will be sadly missed by his sister Aldene McLinton and her husband Glen, and their family Ron McLinton, Sherry McLinton and Linda Mullins. He had a strong work ethic and believed in always trying your best. He had a long career in electrical contracting from his early years owning his own business to supervising large projects for Bedard Gerard, and ended his career at Black and McDonald. He and Jean moved from Toronto to Smiths Falls in 1950 and raised their young family there until they moved to North Gower in 1970. In North Gower he and Jean enjoyed life in a small community and were involved in many activities. For many years he volunteered with the Arthritis Society and he supported Jean in her many pursuits. He loved the quiet of the cottage on Dalhousie Lake and he and Jean maintained large gardens both there and in North Gower. He was a problem solver and believed anything could be fixed and loved to work with his hands on his many hobbies. Coming from humble beginnings it was his greatest wish that his children have the opportunity to pursue higher education and he and Jean were rewarded by attending many graduations of children and grandchildren at all levels of post secondary education. He was a man of few words but the bedrock of the family whose values influenced us all. He was always a supportive father and grandfather and we are saddened by his passing. We want to express our thanks to the nursing and medical staff at Queensway Carlton Hospital who cared for him so compassionately these last weeks and who supported the family as we faced his death. He supported many charities and if so desired, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Arthritis Society or Holy Trinity Anglican Church would be appreciated by the family. Visitation at Cummings Funeral Home in North Gower on Wed. Oct. 07, at 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm. Funeral service at Holy Trinity Anglican Church North Gower on Thursday, Oct. 08, at 2 pm. Cremation at his request with interment beside Jean in Vasey Cemetery on Saturday Oct. 10, at 3 pm.
