VACLAVIK, Rev. Judith Ann - Dec. 27,1948 - Oct.3, 2009 After a courageous 20 year struggle with the progressive complications of a brain tumour, Judith passed away at Runnymede Healthcare Centre in Toronto on Sat. Oct 3 in the warm company of her sister and friends. Predeceased by her parents Elizabeth (Tymchuk) Vaclavik and Rev. Henry Vaclavik, she is survived by her sister Marion Vaclavik of Mississauga, and by cousins in Canada and the Czech Republic. A graduate of the Toronto General Hospital School of Nursing in 1970, Judith worked in cardiac intensive care units at that hospital and Sunnybrook before obtaining her nursing degree at McGill in Montreal. She subsequently studied to become a minister of The United Church of Canada, and following ordination in 1982, served in pastoral charges in Stevensville, Peterborough, Acton and London until 1994 when the effects of the tumour interrupted her career. Sincere gratitude to Dr. Chris Watling and team at the London Regional Cancer Centre for their outstanding compassionate care of Judith over 10 years, and to Dr. Stephen Ng and the nursing and support staff at Runnymede who worked through the most challenging emotional and physical effects that complicated her care. A special thank-you to Lanie, the PSW who cared tirelessly for Judith for the past year and a half. Arrangements have been entrusted to WILLIAMS FUNERAL HOME in Ridgeway. Those wishing to celebrate Judith's life are invited to attend a memorial service at Silver Spire United Church, 366 St. Paul St. in St. Catharines on Mon. Nov. 23 at 1:00 p.m. A reception to follow in the church hall. In lieu of flowers, donations designated to the Walker Family Cancer Centre, Niagara Health System Foundation would be appreciated.
