Eric Elton Sawler - March 26, 1936 - August 26, 2004 - 68 years, Lantz, passed away peacefully Thursday, August 26, 2004, in the New Halifax Infirmary, QEII, with his loving family at his side. Born March 26, 1936, in Eastern Passage, he was a son of the late Elton and Muriel (Hilchie) Sawler. Eric started his career with Fairey Aviation in Shearwater and joined Trans Canada Airlines/Air Canada in 1954 and retired in 1992. He was an avid softball and hockey player, and played for the Waverley Gold Diggers. He coached minor baseball for many years and was an avid traveler, having enjoyed many trips to Barbados (BGI). Eric is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, the former Shirley Marina Haynes; daughters, Lynn-Ann (Roland) Baumeister, Vernon, B.C.; Brenda (Gary) Higgins, Rines Creek; sons, William "Bill", Dartmouth; Brian (Sharon), Fall River; known by his grandchildren as "PomPom", they were his pride and joy, Matt, Peter, and Carly; sisters, Dorothy (Charlie) Cleary, Marilyn (Keith) Ramey, Dartmouth; Gail Sawler, Eastern Passage; brothers, James (Betty) Sawler, Terry Sawler, Eastern Passage; Dennis (Myrna) Sawler, Dartmouth; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers, Billy and John. Arrangements have been entrusted to Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main St., Dartmouth, where the family will receive friends from 12-2 p.m. Saturday, followed by the funeral service at 2 p.m. Interment in Dartmouth Memorial Gardens. Reception to follow in Atlantic Funeral Home Family Reception Centre. Family flowers only.
