BROWN, Joan Devaney - Peacefully on Wednesday, October 7, 2009 at Billings Court Manor in Burlington, in her 87th year. Born in London, Ontario in 1923, the daughter of Reginald and Marguerite Olmsted. Predeceased by brother William Olmsted. Loving wife of the late Francis Devaney (1969) and Gordon Brown (1988). Beloved mother of Lyndon, Relf and his wife Susan Procter, and Jill and her husband Richard Weston . Cherished nannie of Scott and Eric Weston. Dearly remembered by her brother Charles Olmsted and his wife Joan of North Bay, and their children Peter, Barbara, Paul and Nancy and their families. Joan enjoyed a full and active life. An avid gardener, talented seamstress, gracious hostess, and dedicated bridge player for over 40 years. She was resourceful, generous, a loyal and trusted confidant. Joan faced adversity with characteristic determination and integrity, and was much loved and respected by her many friends and family. A private service with cremation has taken place. The family will receive friends at Smith's Funeral Home, 1167 Guelph Line Burlington, 905 632 3333, on Friday 3 to 5p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. , where Funeral Service will be held Saturday, October 17, at 10.30 a.m. If desired, expressions of sympathy may be made to the charity of your choice in lieu of flowers.
