MAYNARD, Donald Kenneth O.L.S. (Ret.) - Courageous to the end of his days, Don died Saturday, October 17, 2009 in his 79th year. Mourning his death are his loving wife Joan Maynard (nee Madill) and daughters Elizabeth Maynard-Gregg (Dave Gregg), Jennifer Anderson (Rhonda Gibson) and Kathleen Maynard (Marc Ducharme). Nicholas Anderson (Anna) and Loribeth Gregg are missing their grandfather. Born in Toronto, Don attended Brown School, North Toronto Collegiate, the University of Toronto and the Ontario Agricultural College at Guelph. He articled with Fitzmaurice & Boyer in Bracebridge, Ontario and received his Ontario Land Surveyor commission in 1959. Don had a private practice in Powassan, Ontario for 30 years. He was an ultimate woodsman and wilderness canoe trekker, and a brilliant mind. Don and his family have been extremely grateful for the care and concern of Dr. T. Rotondo, Dr. M. Desjardins and his assistant, and the palliative care nurses at North Bay General Hospital Scollard Site. Many thanks for the kindness of family, neighbours and friends near and far. A private family graveside service will be held in Lakefield, Ontario at a later date. The family requests those who desire to remember Don with a walk along the trails in the Powassan Pines, or a donation to the Powassan & District Union Public Library.
