GROND, Wilhelmina “Willie“ - Passed away at the South Bruce Grey Health Centre, Durham on Monday, October 19th, 2009. The former Wilhelmina (Willie) Catharina Beukers, of RR#1 Hanover, in her 81st year. Beloved wife of Jacob Grond. Loving mother of Robert and his wife Christine of Toronto, Helen and her husband Stephen McGrath of Hornby Island, B.C., Nel and her husband Graeme Bain of New Westminster, B.C., and Bruce and his wife Paula of Hamilton. Cherished Oma of Kathryn, Jennifer, Laura, Léa, Lily, Jasper, Jac, Austin, Celeste, and Aurora. Dear sister of Tina and her husband Ted Schut of Dornoch, Bavonia Beukers, Gerda Voet, and Henricus Beukers all of the Netherlands. Predeceased by her parents Catherine and Henricus Beukers; her son James; and her brother Peter Beukers. Willie was a very caring and talented woman, mother, grandmother, and friend. As a member of the Durham Agricultural Society and the Hanover Aqua-fit and coffee club, as well as a judge of flower arranging for many local fall fairs, Willie was a very active and appreciated member of her community. Willie took pleasure in her many skills and passions for gardening, flower arranging, sewing, knitting, baking, craft and card-making, and her Wednesday card club. She will be remembered for the many wedding gowns that she had sewn, and the many “Oma“ sweaters that she had knitted for those dear to her. First and foremost, Willie will be remembered for the love that she had for her family, and the remarkable courage she had throughout her spirited battle; the same courage that kept her looking forward and inspired all those who had the privilege to know her. She will be, without a doubt, dearly missed. The family would like to thank Dr. Lakhani and the staff at the Durham Hospital and the nurses at Carepartners, as well as the Owen Sound Hospital Oncology Department for the excellent care that was given to Willie. Friends may call at the MCCULLOCH- WATSON FUNERAL HOME, Durham on Thursday from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 p.m. for a memorial visitation. A Memorial Mass will be held at Holy Family Roman Catholic Church on Friday morning at 11 o'clock. As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations to the Durham and Community Health Care Foundation would be appreciated by the family.
