BECKEN, Meda - in her 94th year, passed away peacefully at the Welland County General Hospital on October 21st, 2009, with her family by her side. She is survived by her husband Harold Becken whom she married on December 28th 1940. They would have celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary this December 28th. She is also survived by her son William (Linda) of Windsor, Ontario and her daughter Joan Bowling (Donald) of Alliance, Ohio. She is fondly remembered by her grandchildren Chris of Hamilton, Michelle (Mike) of Burlington, Kelly of Toronto, William of Windsor, Jeffery (Holly) of San Francisco, California and Michael (Shayna) of Edmonton, Alberta and her great- grandchildren McKenzie, Matthew, Andrew and Brandon. She was born in England in 1916 and came to Welland at the age of 9. She was preceded in death by her parents Thomas and Margaret Turner, brothers, Hubert (Mary), Alfred (Peggy), William (Mary), Arthur (Helen of St. Catharines) and sisters, Ethel (Thomas), Florence (Jack), Edna (George), Ada (Andrew), Margaret (Howard), and Violet (Lloyd). For 25 years she worked side by side with her husband in their own business called Maico Becken Hearing Aid Service and later Becken and Associates. For many years she was a devoted Sunday School teacher and also served on many church boards. Her hobbies included knitting (especially for the grandchildren), sewing, reading, traveling and playing the piano. A memorial service will be held in the chapel of the H.L. CUDNEY FUNERAL HOME, 241 West Main Street, Welland, on Monday, October 26th at 11:00 AM. (Visitation 1 hour prior to service time).
