SNELGROVE, Lieutenant-Colonel Harold (Hal), EM CD OstJ - Peacefully surrounded by his family on October 22, 2009 in his 92nd year. Beloved husband of Jane (Doherty, County Limerick Ireland). Loving father of Peter (Toni-Ann) of Windsor, Brian (Karen) of London, Jody of St. Catharines and James Raleigh (Cherie) of St. Catharines. Dear grandfather of Jessica and Keith Stanich and Teagan Raleigh. Predeceased by brothers Gibson and Laurence (WWII) and by his wife Jocelyn Little (1963). Hal was born in Galt, Ontario and was commissioned in the Perth Regiment (Militia) in 1936. In World War II he served for six years; in North Africa with the Grenadier Guards of the British Army and with The Perth Regiment in Italy and North West Europe, ending the war in Holland in 1945. After returning to Canada in 1946 he became a member of The Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry and a graduate of The Staff College, Camberley England. He served in various Senior Staff Officer positions in Canada and the United States until retiring to St. Catharines in 1967. He was a past Warden of St. George's Anglican Church, a life member and past President of The Royal Niagara Military Institute, past Chair of Lincoln County Branch St. John Ambulance, member of Branch 24 Royal Canadian Legion, The Probus Club and a Life Member of the Lincoln County Humane Society. The family wishes to express their thanks to the many loving care givers, staff and Dr. J. Luce at Versa Care Centre for their kindness and support these last many months. Cremation has taken place and a celebration of Harold's life will be held at St. George's Anglican Church, 83 Church Street, St. Catharines on Thursday, October 29th at 10:30 am. Do not stand at my grave and weep, I am not there, I do not sleep. I am a thousand winds that blow, I am the diamond glint on snow, I am the sunlight on ripened grain, I am the gentle morning rain. And when you wake in the morning's hush, I am the sweet uplifting rush of quiet birds in circled flight. I am the soft stars that shine at night, Do not stand at my grave and cry, I am not there, I did not die.
