CROW, Sidney Alfred KSJ - With dignity, after a long valiant struggle, passed away peacefully, one month before his 95th Birthday at McNally House, Grimsby on Sunday, October 25th, 2009 surrounded by his loving family. Beloved husband and life partner for 70 years (on October 20th) of Marjorie Dobrindt. Treasured father of Beverly and Richard Morrison of Grimsby and cherished grandfather of Erin and husband David Golan of Beamsville and Lindsay and husband Patrick Kuzmich of Grimsby. Adoring great grandpa of Henry Morrison Kuzmich. Sid was a gentle, thoughtful, generous man who made a difference. He was a member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church and a founding member of the St. John Ambulance Brigade in Welland. Born in 1914 in Ilford, England, he immigrated to Canada at the age of 5 with his parents Rose and Alfred Crow. He lived in Welland most of his life until moving to The Orchards in Heritage Village, Vineland in 2005. He was a proud employee of Atlas Steels, Welland for 42 years and upon retirement, a Court Clerk in the Judicial District of Niagara South. While employed at Atlas, Sid became a well known first aid instructor and began a lifelong affiliation with the Order of the Hospital of St. John of Jerusalem - a serving Order dating back to The Crusades. He humbly received honours and recognition for his efforts and years of dedication from: Governor General G. Vanier, Lt. Governor Ross McDonald, Lt. Governor Pauline McGibbon, Chancellor of the Priory of Canada and Lt. Governor Hilary Weston. In 2004, he was bestowed into the Order with the highest honour of Knight of Grace by Lt. Governor James Bartelman. Sid lived his life by the motto of The Order of St. John - “for the Faith and for the Service of Mankind“. Well done, Grandpa Sid. “May the wind be at your back“. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church (corner of Griffith and Kent Street), Welland on Friday, October 30th at 12:30 p.m. Family will receive visitors one hour prior to service. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Matthew's Church or McNally House, Grimsby would be gratefully received with cards available at the H.L.
