GILBERT, Susan - Susan Kathryn Gilbert (nee Smythe) passed away peacefully at Lee Manor Nursing Home in Owen Sound on Wednesday, October 28th, 2009 with Harold, Carolyn and Jesse by her side. Susan was the dearly beloved wife of Harold Gilbert, of Chatsworth. Loving mother of John Gilbert, Michael Gilbert and his wife, Cyndy and Timothy Gilbert, all of Toronto and Carolyn Skene and her husband, Glen, of Owen Sound and her puppy, Emma. Proud grandmother of Mark, Andrew, Sean, Luke, Jesse, Darrin (Lisa), Jennifer (Jo), Christopher, Pascal, Ming, Tang and great-grandmother of Isabella and Addison. Susan will be sadly missed by her in-laws, Norma Smythe, Mabel Page, Jack and Flora Gilbert, all of British Columbia. Predeceased by her parents, Harry and Mabel Smythe; her son, Peter “Fergus“ Gilbert; her brothers, Jack, Harry and James Smythe. Susan, because of her husband's long time career as a Civil Servant, was well known in the Transportation and Communications field across Canada because Harold was the Deputy Minister of Transportation and Communications during the era of Premier William Davis. Susan was a teacher both in her career as well as in her life. She was loved and respected by all her many friends. She will be sadly missed. A Funeral Service for Susan Gilbert will be held in the Chapel of the BRIAN E. WOOD FUNERAL HOME, 250 - 14th Street West, Owen Sound, Ontario N4K - 3X8 (519-376-7492) on Saturday, October 31st, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Ralph Schmidt officiating. Visitation two hours prior to service. Interment in Sandhill Cemetery, R. R. #1, Battersea, Ontario on Monday, November 2nd, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. If so desired, the family would appreciate donations to the Arthritis Society of Grey- Bruce or Champs (a Division of War Amps) as your expression of sympathy.
