KERRIO, Vincent (Vince) Sr. - Passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, at the Greater Niagara General Hospital on Friday October 30, 2009 at the age of 85. Beloved husband of 61 years to Rose (Damore) Kerrio. Dearly loved father of Vince Jr. (Cathy) Kerrio and Mike (Charri) Kerrio of Niagara Falls. Cherished Papa of Kendra, Alexa and Karley. Dear brother-in- law of Bunny (Joe) McMahon, Peter Damore and Albert Damore. Special friend to Isabell Frost. Vince was born and raised in Niagara Falls. In his early years he worked for his father Tony in the construction business prior to forming Kerrio Construction which he owned and operated for thirty years. Over the years, he was proud that he was able to employ hundreds of people, many of them new immigrants to Niagara Falls. In 1975 Vince entered provincial politics, defeating then Attorney- General John Clement to become the Liberal M.P.P for Niagara Falls, a post he held with distinction for fifteen years until he retired from politics in 1990. During his tenure he held cabinet positions as both Minister of Natural Resources and Minister of Energy simultaneously. Vince was a community leader who made many friends throughout his life and he will be greatly missed. Friends are invited to call at the PATTERSON FUNERAL HOME, 6062 Main St. visiting Monday 2-5 and 7- 10 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Thomas More Church. The Rite of Committal will follow at Fairview Cemetery. The Vigil for Vince will be celebrated Monday at 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home. As a fitting tribute to honour Vince's contributions to his community, donations to the G.N.G.H. Memory Tree would be appreciated by his family.
