GILL , Rajwant Kaur January 15, 1931 - October 5, 2009 Rajwant Gill passed away on October 5, 2009 at the age of 78 years. Rajwant grew up as the youngest of seven siblings in Punjab, Pakistan. She studied at a convent school in Lahore where she learned to speak fluent Urdu, English, Punjabi and Hindi. She was well educated and knowledgeable in various cultures. Rajwant was a friendly and fun-loving individual, who could make a friend in just one meeting. In 1955, Rajwant married the late Gurnam Singh Gill (Son of Bachiter Singh Gill) of Phulawala District Moga. After her husband passed away in 1970, Rajwant raised her two sons on her own and gave both of them a good education. She was a strong-willed, independent woman who did everything she could for her children. In 1993, she moved to Campbell River, BC to live with her younger son, Amardeep Singh (Hardy) Gill. It was during this time that she became actively involved in the community. For example, she was the President of the Multi-cultural Society, and we can go on and on with the examples. In 1995, Rajwant was diagnosed with cancer and she was given two years to live, but she fought for fourteen long years and lived a wonderful life. In 2002, she moved to Calgary with her younger son and spent her last days with her family. She will be loved and greatly be missed by all her family members and friends. We know she will always be there watching over us. Funeral Services will be held at CALGARY CREMATORIUM CHAPEL, 3219 - 4 Street N.W. (within the valley of Queen's Park Cemetery) on Saturday, October 10, 2009 at 11:30 a.m. To email expressions of sympathy: ccl@hffs.com, subject heading: Rajwant Gill.
