BAKER, Donelda 2009-10-15 March 7, 1923 ~ October 12, 2009 Donelda Baker (nee McKinnon), our beloved mother died peacefully at home with her family by her side after a courageous battle with cancer. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Robert (Bob) who was her best friend, confidant and golf buddy, on September 22, 1992. Mom was born in Fort William on March 7, 1923 to Gertrude and Donald McKinnon. She grew up in Fort William and worked as a welder at Canada Car during the war, a fact she was very proud of. Mom and Dad were married October 30, 1946 and spent most of the early years of their marriage raising their five children in various northern communities (Moosonee, Churchill, Toronto, The Pas) moving back to Thunder Bay in 1974. Mom worked for many years at Thunder Bay Airport with R.M. Catering. Her main focus was her home, her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was an avid curler, bowler and golfer (Chapples Ladies Golf Club) and enjoyed her hobbies of knitting, crocheting and baking. Mom was predeceased by brother Hector (Elma) McKinnon, sisters Maude Couch and Marion Pero. She will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by her children Don (Mary Ann), Carole (Solomon) Parenteau, Brenda (Steve Semple), Anita Swordlyk, Robert and her 15 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Also by sisters Mae Birch and June (Bob) Garrett. Services will be conducted by Pastor Yvonne Kim at First Presbyterian Church, 639 Grey Street on Friday, October 16 at 3:30. Visitation will take place with the family one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Cancer Society or a charity of your choice.
