JUDEK, Waclaw 2009-10-27 WACLAW (WALTER) Walter Judek died peacefully on October 25, 2009 at the Thunder Bay Interim Long Term Care Centre. Walter was born on September 27, 1925 in Lubon, Poland to Zofia and Jakub Judek. As a teen in occupied Poland he worked at several jobs delivering coal and groceries, and later as an orderly in the army hospital where he saw the pains of war. During the transition to peacetime he served in the Polish Army. After his army service he was educated as a welder-blacksmith and worked for the railway in Poznan, Poland. In 1950 he met and married Wanda Tatarek. They had two daughters Elizabeth and Margaret. In April 1961 he and his family immigrated to Canada, settling in Fort William. Walter worked as a welder for Hacquoil Construction Company from the mid 1960’s to the mid 1980’s and several years at Canada Car before his retirement in 1990. He enjoyed all types of fishing and camping and the many adventures that went with these activities. He was a long time member of St. Casimir’s Church, the Royal Canadian Legion Polish Veteran Branch 149, and the Canadian Polish Alliance Group 19. Survived by his daughters Elizabeth Pilipczuk (Adam) and Margaret Tebinka (Richard), grandsons Christopher (Samantha), Gregory, Andrew Pilipczuk, Timothy, Nicholas Tebinka and two brothers in Poland. Predeceased by his wife Wanda in 1998, brother Jozef in 1980, and his parents Zofia and Jakub in Poland. Prayer vigil will be held at St. Casimir’s Church on Wednesday, October 28, 2009 at 8:00 p.m. Funeral mass will be held at St. Casimir’s Church on Thursday, October 29, 2009 at 10 a.m., celebrated by Rev. Andrew Deptula. interment to follow in St. Andrew’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family respectfully requests donations to the Thunder Bay Heart and Stroke Association, the Kidney Foundation of Ontario - Northwestern Ontario Chapter or the charity of your choice. A tree will be planted in memory of Waclaw Judek in the Blake Funeral Chapel Memorial Grove. Annual dedication service Sunday, June 27, 2010.
