Veikko Kalervo Koskinen , of Hearst - Date of Death: December 12th, 2004 - The funeral service for Hearst area forest worker Veikko Kalervo Koskinen, 64, of Cloutier Rd North is to held Dec. 16th (tomorrow), 2004. He died suddenly, Dec. 12th, south of town. Born Sept. 12, 1940 in Hearst, he was described as a kind, giving people helper who enjoyed camping, fishing, cutting firewood, and helping his children and anyone in need. A forest supervisor for Newaygo Forest Products and Levesque Lumber, he later did contract supervising for smaller woodlands operations as well as contract jobs for government and organizations. An avid firewood cutter, "he basically hugged a tree a day, that was his life," son Neil said. Outgoing with people, "he was a social butterfly." He was predeceased by his parents Aune in 1961 and Kaarle Koskinen in 1984, both in Hearst, a sister Hellen Koskinen in the mid-1990s, and a brother Oliver of Thunder Bay in 1983. He leaves his wife Helen (nee Kuokkanen) Koskinen of Hearst, sons Neil and Brad Koskinen, both of Hearst, and a brother Pentti (Maria) Koski of Thunder Bay. Rev. Douglas Richardson is to direct the 3 p.m. service at St. Matthew's-St. Paul's Anglican/United Church. Interment will take place next spring at Riverside Cemetery. Following tomorrow's service, a luncheon will be held at the Branch 173 Hearst Legion. Funeral director is the Salon Lafrance Funeral Home. Commemorative donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association.
