Eric Olof SALMONSON

SALMONSON 2009-10-11 Mr. Eric Olof Salmonson, age 58 years, passed away on Thursday, October 8, 2009. Eric was born in Nakina on March 4, 1951 to Olof and Francoise Salmonson. When he was only 3 days old Eric‘s father took him on his first airplane ride and his love of aviation began. At 18 he went to North Bay to pursue his flying career. He flew all over Northwestern Ontario and Northern Mantitoba. Over the years he flew a variety of bush planes, his favorite being the Twin Otter. In 1978 he received his commercial license in Winnipeg and was hired by NorOntair/Bearskin Airlines in 1979, where he remained until 2005. Eric was a quiet man who enjoyed camping, travelling, reading and spending time with his family. His love for flying was only exceeded by his love for his family. Eric will be sadly missed by his wife Georgine; daughters Erika (Curtis) Handberg, Shannon, and Cyndy; granddaughter Olivia; mother Fran Salmonson; siblings: Marie (Jim) Corston, Judy, Vikter (Lorraine), Gerry (Laurie) and Miriam (Billy Owens); nieces and nephews, Karen, Marlene, Gary, Joseph, Nathan, Jacob, Luke, Samantha, and special great niece Jessie. He was predeceased by his father Olof in 1984. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, October 14, 2009 at St. Thomas Anglican Church with The Ven. Archdeacon Andrew Hoskin officiating. An Evening Gathering for family and friends will be held on Tuesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. in the WESTFORT CHAPEL, 420 West Gore Street at James.
