KENNY, Lorne Milford - Crossed over peacefully on October 30, 2009, just one day shy of his 91st birthday. Beloved husband of the late Olive Cooke. Dear father of Eva (Kathy), Richard (Lyse) and John (Liz). Predeceased by sons Donnie and Robert. Loving grandfather to Clea (Andreas), Alexis (Kim), Marieke, Saskia and Mélisande. Proud great-grandfather of Auden and Dylan. Brother to Clifford (June), Roy (Doris) and Alma (Jack). Predeceased by parents Myrtle (Mainse) and David Ford Kenny, as well as brothers and sisters Osborne, Grace, Keitha, Gerald, and Velma. Lorne lived a long and fulfilling life. In 1938, he travelled to Egypt to serve as a missionary. He met Olive, also a missionary and teacher, when he arrived in Asyut. They married in 1941, started a family, and lived in Egypt for many years before settling in Montreal and then Toronto. He joined the Department of Islamic and Middle Eastern Studies at the University of Toronto in 1962 and retired as its chairman in 1984. He translated many works from the Arabic and collaborated with his wife on the translation of the Cairo Trilogy by Naguib Mahfouz. The family wishes to thank Joan McCarthy and the caring staff at the Peter D. Clarke Centre.
