MacMILLAN , Corol November 14, 1916 - October 5, 2009 Corol MacMillan passed away peacefully at the Southwood Hospice on Monday, October 5, 2009 at the age of 92. Mildred Rose (Corol) Sketchley was born in Calgary, the daughter of Welsh emigrants Arthur Joseph and Amelia (Maxine) Sketchley. Corol lived her entire life in the house in which she was born. She served in the Canadian Air Force during WWII. Corol was a very talented and intelligent lady. Her two passions were cats and gardening. She was an International Cat Judge and judged cat shows throughout Canada, the United States, Mexico and Australia. She had the first Himalayan Cats in Canada, having imported them from England in the early 1950's. In 2007 she was honored at a cat show in Winnipeg for sixty years of contributions to the Cat Fancy. Her Shaded Silver American Shorthair Cats have been described as a "National Treasure". Corol competed in her last cat show at age ninety-one. Her garden was always a source of delight. In her earlier years, Corol and her brother Arthur, both competed in horticultural competitions. Horticulturalists still marvel at the unique plants she has grown. Two trees in her garden have Heritage Designations. Corol lived with an attitude of gratitude. Her positive outlook on life has been an inspiration to many. Corol is predeceased by her parents and six siblings. She leaves nephews and great-nieces and nephews in B.C. Over the years, Corol forged many special and deep friendships. Her passing is mourned by her "other family" Richard and Ruth and their children and grandchildren and special friends Carol, Michael and Willie. Memorial Service will be held in the Chapel of MOUNTAIN VIEW FUNERAL HOME on Saturday, October 17, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. Cremation has taken place.
